Shawnette Somner: Life is short. Enjoy it. Savour it. Live it.
‘Turn a weakness into a strength’
Shawnette Somner: Try to address a weakness you know you possess and set out on a path to turn it into a strength — something you can use to your advantage.
Working to overcome ‘the blah feelings’
Shawnette Somner: I've made a decision to finish writing the weekly columns for the Bermuda Sun with the last one to appear on Friday, November 8.

Why do we ignore root causes of problems?
Shawnette Somner: The old cliche that we need to get to the 'root cause' of various problems is becoming as painful for me to hear as a root canal itself. 'We' - and I use that word cautiously - are the root cause of our problems.

Find time to relax
Shawnette Somner: When the stress of all your responsibilities becomes overwhelming for you, it inevitably has an adverse effect on those around you — whether it be family, co-workers, or the stranger you meet in passing.
Something is desperately wrong in filming dirty deeds
Shawnette Somner: These kinds of posted videos of our youth attacking each other seem to be an accepted norm amongst our young people to share and gawk at someone else’s misery at the hands of one of their peers.
Managers need the right skill set to motivate people
Shawnette Somner: Managing people has got to be one of the most difficult and challenging jobs on the face of the earth.
