Summer time brings longer days, more sunlight and the temperatures heat up, which in turn brings tons of exposure to the sun and more damage to our hair and skin.

Everyone always flocks to make a special visit to their beauty therapist to get the latest and greatest in sun care to protect their skin; but everyone forgets about their HAIR!

Hair needs protecting equally as much as skin.

The humidity levels here in Bermuda, mixed with the salt in the air, are a recipe for damaged, dry, brittle summer hair.

Clients need protection for their hair, their parting and their scalp, which helps to prevent hair damage and colour-fade due to sun exposure.

Most summer sun care products contain SPF and have added conditioners to counteract the drying effect of the sun, which keeps your hair healthy throughout the summer months.

Sunscreen or SPF is a product that absorbs or reflects some of the sun’s ultraviolet radiation on hair or skin that is exposed to sunlight.

Most products on the market today offer a perfectly balanced combination of active ingredients that protect and repair sun-stressed hair and scalp

They contain key ingredients such as monoi oil work with vitamin E and amino cell rebuild technology, ensure that damaged hair structures are rebuilt from the inside out, and the hair is protected from further stress.

Products containing SPF will help minimize colour fade; however these products will not eliminate it completely

Therefore, clients must utilize semi-permanent colours or gloss toners (which are ammonia-free and provide fresh and intense colours with irresistible shine) wherever necessary to keep colours or highlights looking rich and healthy.

If you’re looking to enjoy a summer of boating, sun, sea and sand, always have your secret weapons or, alternatively, wear a hat.

An intense after-sun care regime that moisturizes the hair after exposure will leave hair looking and feeling healthy.

Stop by your local salon and discuss your hair care regime with your stylist to ensure your hair stays fabulous for the summer.
