OBA given a slight edge for handling of the economy!

One-third of voters (33.6%) trusted the OBA to do a better job of handling the economy over the PLP (28.5%), although the result was not statistically significant. However, nearly 3 in 10 voters (29.9%) trusted neither party to handle the economy while nearly 1 in 10 (8%) were not sure.

Differences by Age

By age, younger voters, those between the ages of 18 and 34, were more inclined to trust the PLP to handle the economy (37.4%), while those aged between 35 and 54, and those over 55 were more inclined to trust the OBA (34.7% and 37.1% respectively.) In addition, nearly one-third (32.6%) of all voters between the ages of 35 and 54 were more likely to feel that neither of the parties were better at handling the economy.

Differences by Race

Results by race are compelling. Three-quarters of white voters (75.6%) trust the OBA to do a better job of handling the economy, with only 2.2% stating the PLP. Nearly half of black voters (44.9%) however trust the PLP do a better job with the economy, while 12.3% stated the OBA. And nearly half of all voters (47.9%) who classified themselves as neither black nor white did not trust either party to do a better job of handling the economy.

Differences by Income

The OBA was trusted more by households that earned in excess of than $100,000 (44.1%) while the PLP were trusted more by households earning less than $50,000 and householdsearning between $50,000 and $100,000 (37.9% and 31.6% respectively).

Of those households who felt that neither party could do a better job of handling the economy, there was little difference by income group: 30.3% for under $50,000; 31.6% for households earning between $50,000 and $100,000; and 28.2% for those earning in access of $100,000.
