The Met Gala is an annual fundraising gala to benefit the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute.

This event is a landmark of the arts, fashion and entertainment world serving as an opening celebration for the institute’s annual fashion exhibit — extensively regarded as one of the most exclusive social events in New York and one of the biggest fundraising nights — that has been held at the Met since 1971 and is considered to be the fashion industry’s premier annual red carpet event.

Anna Wintour oversees the guest lists and issues the dress code with the Costume Institute’s fashion exhibition in mind.

This year’s show is Charles James: Beyond Fashion

The hair industry witnessed an array of “wrongs” and rights” on the red carpet this year as the attendees try to take risks and go “high fashion” — believe it or not even the celebrities sometimes get it wrong!

Kate Upton with her dire head attire and Lupita Nyong’o with her grim head attire and the extension puff on her right side; were both wrongs.

Hair accessories are perfect when they compliment the dress, not overpower the dress.

Katie Holmes donned a very casual hairstyle for a very formal event — coupling an elegant hairstyle with an elegant dress is essential.

Just pinning a few sections or all hair to one side could have assisted in the style looking less like Saturday brunch hair for a formal event.

Jessica Alba and Blake Lively both sported the 1920’s up do that has been trending throughout the awards season — both looks are safe options when on the red carpet.

Joan Smalls emerged rocking the in season fishtail braid in a classy way; the deep side part and the swoop on the opposite side added softness, texture and instant glamour, perfect for a red carpet event.

My all time favourite for the night was Sarah Jessica Parker who very rarely is a fashion wrong; two buns elegantly placed on top of her head and intertwined into each other completely off her face giving the dress its time to shine.

The Met Gala was a hit this year and remember ladies, always take inspiration from the RED CARPET!
