St David’s shooting victim stable

The man who was shot early Wednesday in St David’s is in stable condition in the general ward of the King Edward Memorial Hospital, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Details are still sparse regarding the two men arrested Wednesday in connection with the shooting. Their ages and home parishes have so far been withheld and police declined to say if the duo was still being held or had been released.

The victim was injured around 2:45am in the morning in Cove Valley, St David’s.

Police are keen to speak with anyone who may have heard or seen anyone acting suspiciously in the Cove Valley and St Luke’s Lane areas early Wednesday morning. 

Additionally, authorities are looking to hear from anyone who witnessed any vehicles, specifically a four-door sedan without any registration plates around that time. They will be helping with door-to-door inquiries and offer relevant information to that community, according to police.

The shooting occurred a week after a Southampton man was shot to death. 

Police have said they do not believe the two crimes are connected at this time.”

Lovitta Foggo, MP for St David’s, said the shooting represented “an affront to the security and stability of our country.”

“I plead with the perpetrators of these actions to think before they act and to find a better way of resolving disputes,” she said. “Nothing good can or will come from these acts.  

“I hope the Police can investigate this occurrence and bring the perpetrator(s) to justice.  These cowardly acts have no place in our communities.  The victim is personally known to me and my family, and this shows that even as politicians we are not removed from being affected by these incidents.”

 The newly installed Shadow Minister for Public Safety, Walter Roban added he is concerned “that after a lull in gun crime, it may be picking up again.”

“This does not bode well for our communities and it must be stomped out,” he said. “We implore anyone with any information regarding the St David’s shooting and any other unsolved crimes to present themselves to the Police.”The investigation continues.
