The Iron Kids youth triathlon will take place on Saturday, September 20, sponsors Clarien Bank Limited has announced.
Event registration will begin in August. Children ages 3 to 14 will be able to swim, bike and run for a chance to win up to a $1,000 Clarien Iron Kids Bank account.
This special savings account was created several years ago as a result of the Iron Kids triathlon to help build a financially and physically healthy future generation. It offers an ATM Card and earns a two per cent interest rate on an amount up to $10,000.
The account is available to children from birth until the age of 18 and will teach children from an early age the basics of money management.
Clarien Bank Co-CEO Ian Truran said: “The Iron Kids triathlon is more than a physical challenge for our youth - it is also financially rewarding for the winners who will be introduced to the importance of financial responsibility and management through the Clarien Iron Kids Bank Account.
“We are thrilled to continue this time-honoured tradition, and encourage all children of every ability level to participate in the event.”
The Iron Kids Triathlon began 26 years ago as a Gibbons Company event and was held at Shelly Bay Beach before it was adopted by the former Capital G Bank. It is now held at Clearwater Beach in St. David’s, consisting of two age group categories: Tiny Tots (ages 3-6) and junior Triathletes (ages 7-14).
