A new table tennis recreation centre is slated to open next week in Hamilton.
The 3,800 square foot space in the Commerce Building on Reid Street is scheduled to open to the public on July 1.
The operation, dubbed SMASH!, will be run by Jaymo Durham and Lynwood “Brotha Richie” Richardson.
Mr Durham has represented Bermuda in international table tennis tournaments.
In 2012, for example, he was part of a team that won the Division 8, Group B title in the North American Teams tournament in Baltimore, Maryland.
“Jaymo’s thing was always to grow the sport and this is the first rec centre of this nature on the island,” said Mr Richardson.
There will be seven table tennis tables on the premises, as well as a separate video game room.
A month membership is $50, walk-ins will have to pay a fee of $10, said Mr Richardson, who will be the facility manager. “We’re stressing that this is an option for family entertainment,” he said. “It’s not just a youth place.”
