A 51-year-old woman was told she had no case to answer to in Magistrates’ Court this morning after it was claimed the Department of Transport Control (TCD) disqualified her from driving on the road for 10 years for medical reasons…then issued her a driver’s license four years later.
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner heard how Angela Sweeting was stopped by Police earlier this month and, according to them she was driving while disqualified.
According to Crown Counsel Maria Sofianos, the Devonshire woman suffered a seizure in 2006 and was then taken off the road for a decade by order of TCD.
In order to regain her license, Ms Sweeting was told that she must provide medical clearance from her doctor deeming her fit to drive.
However, Ms Sweeting told a different story. As she admitted that she did have the seizure she said she was told there was a possibility that she could face a disqualification of up to a year.
But she said she never was informed of anything officially by TCD.
After being stopped by Police, Ms Sweeting said she went to her doctor who she said had no clue about the disqualification.
She added that she received a new license in 2010, some four years after the supposedly ban. It expires in 2020.
After seeing a copy of the woman’s license, Mr. Warner told her she was free to go.
