It will be the Bermudian star's third Commonwealth Games.
And he told the Bermuda Sun that he was setting realistic expectations by setting himself a target of a top half field performance.
Butterfield said: "I an honored to represent Bermuda at my 3rd Commonwealth Games.
"It is always great to fly the Bermuda flag around the race course. For triathlon the Commonwealth countries are very strong, with the Gold & Bronze Olympic medalists highlighting the start list.
"I am realistic in my expectations and a solid performance would to try to be in the middle of the race and try for a top 1/2 field performance. Great Britain, South Africa, Australia, Canada and New Zealand are all sending very strong teams."
Butterfield is part of an 18-strong Bermuda team that will head to Glasgow next month.
He added: "If Bermuda can get in amongst some of the large countries athletes it is a huge performance. I hope to do Bermuda proud and that is always my number one goal at any Games."
