Men’s hairdressing has extensively progressed throughout the last century.
Even before the last decade, the story of Samson and Delilah showed how important a man’s hairstyle was, with Samson winning his beauty due to his long locks of hair.
In later centuries, like the 1600s and 1700s, men wore wigs, with the most popular wig style having long, loose waves. It wasn’t until the 1800s and 1900s those men actually started cutting their hair short. Nowadays we have men donning a variety of looks and getting rather creative to showcase their individual styles.
The summer trend of 2014 brings a creative edge to men’s haircuts, which can be styled a variety of ways to give a variety of looks (i.e. business and fun). The Undercut, it looks cool, clean and works great on all hair types as seen at Balenciaga’s spring/summer 2014 collection show this look can be styled slick, spiky, messy, or not at all, also paired well with a beard. The beard is in full swing this year; facial hair is definitely a must in the men’s trends for 2014 is growing a thick full beard is all the rage; as seen on Maison Martin Margiela’s spring/summer 2014 collection. For men with finer hair, beards look better shorter and well groomed.
A deep side part is fitting for a night out, a day at work or a casual day out on the town. At Brioni’s spring/summer 2014 collection the deep side part is being worn with the popular slick back hair .
Tapered sides with a fringe is an update to the undercut, wearing sides longer on top and tapering down towards the neck, great for thick hair! Seen at Andrea Pompilio’s and Fendi’s spring/summer 2014 collection it has the man looking rather dapper for the upcoming season. One side slick hair seen at Bottega Veneta’s, Gucci and Dior’s spring/summer 2014 collection show has been trendsetting for a while now; an easy to style cut with lots of options. Best suits a high forehead or receding hairline. Vivienne Westwood has revived bandannas!! She has given men that have “bad hair days” life again!
Men, get inspired and find the 2014 summer trend that best suits you.
