A 30-year-old St. George’s man was handed a $2,000 fine after he admitted causing unlawful wounding to one of his childhood friends on May 29 this year.
Prosecutor Maria Sofianos told Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner that on the date in question, Jacal Minors was having a conversation with the Bar Chairman of the St. David’s Cricket Club when the conversation ended up moving onto to porch of the sports club. It was then the Chairman called Mr. Minors a “mama’s boy.”
Although not a part of the conversation, Aaron Crockwell, of St. George’s, got up from a card game he was playing with a group of friends and slapped Mr. Minors with an open hand, causing bleeding from his lip.
The victim subsequently attended the Lamb Foggo Urgent Care Centre and was treated for a lower lip laceration that required three sutures.
Before being sentenced, Crockwell apologized for his actions and said that he was surprised that the incident had made its way to court: “It was a simple situation between friends. I was wrong. We were good friends.
"It’s not that serious and we continue to be friends. We play on the same football team and have had arguments before.”
However, Mr. Archibald told Crockwell that he could not slap a man and then decide how far it should go, before fining his $2,000.
