Ready for phase two Summer Swizzlers?
One thing that suprised me most as a judge for the inaugural CellOne Summer Swizzlers Competition was the sheer variety of flavours between the entrants.
There were 17 entrants and no two entries were even slightly the same.
A couple had refreshing grapefruit as the overriding flavour, more than a couple were head-spinningly boozy, a few had the perfect balance of sweet and citrus and one even tasted of bubblegum!
The panel of 12 judges had a great time discussing the qualities and otherwise of the samples and had to give marks for smell, appearance, flavour and texture.
The finalists
The samples were unnamed so there was no chance of bias and the finalists can now be announced.
They are, in no particular order, Kurt Ming, Wendell Simons, Michelle Furbert (an employee of Island Press — the parent company of the Bermuda Sun), Andrew Fraser, Geraldine Smith and Clarence Michael Outerbridge.
Now that the judges have whittled it down to seven finalists, the general public will be responsible for the final judging at CellOne’s hospitality tent on the grounds of Cup Match.
The winner will then be announced on August 4.
There will be prizes for the winners from CellOne and Gosling’s prizes.
Organizers said that the competition has started off small scale to gauge interest and it is hoped the competition will grow next year to include weekly rounds of elimination and candidate profiles.
