The prestigious Philadephia Dance Company (Philadanco) along with local dance companies will be performing at a tributary concert for the late Louise Jackson, OBE, next Wednesday.

The concert has been organized by the Bermuda Festival of the Performing Arts for which Jackson was a board director and member of the Programming Advisory Committee.

Jackson was a close friend of Joan Myers Brown, who is executive artistic director of Philadanco.

The company is a non-profit organization that is celebrated for its innovation, creativity and preservation of predominantly African-American traditions in dance.

They will perform alongside students and teachers of the Jackson School of Preforming Arts, which Jackson founded some 60 years ago, as well as students from United Dance Productions, dancer Sophia Cannonier and the H&H Gombey Captain and Drummers.

Aside from dance, there will be music from The Bermuda High School (Jackson served on their board) and a story ‘mosaic’ by Ruth Thomas and
Company.

Suzette Harvey, founder of United Dance Productions, who was a student at the Jackson school, told the Bermuda Sun: “It is my honour to have my school UDP perform for this great tribute in memory of Mrs Jackson, as we must always pay homage to our elders and those who have paved the way.”

The show is free though all available seats have been taken.
