The ever-growing PechaKucha Night makes its return next Thursday with a host of exciting speakers lined up.
From eco-schools and living a green lifestyle, to bee-keeping and Bermuda’s latest craze — Roller Derby, there will be plenty to mull over.
This year’s event will be hosted at the Blue Water Anglers Club at 28 East Broadway on Thursday, February 20 from 6pm to 9pm.
It is the sixth event of its kind here in Bermuda but PechaKucha events take place all over the world.
One of the organizers, Tiago Garcia, who will deliver his own talk at PechaKucha, told the Bermuda Sun: “Personally, it’s been very rewarding being involved in the PechaKucha talks.
“Each PKN edition has been hosted in a different venue, and the clubs/bars have expressed their gratitude in bringing people to their location.
“We hosted the last one at Sandy’s Boat Club, and the club president told us: “I’ve never seen so many people here on a Thursday night!”
“Furthermore, I really enjoy when people tell me that attending/presenting at PKN has allowed them to meet new and interesting people, and that professional/personal relationships have developed as a result of having PKN as a commonality.
“At the end of the day it’s an event that seeks to celebrate people, and allows individuals to connect with their audience in an intimate setting.”
The format of the PechaKucha talk is “20x20” where 20 images are projected on a screen, each for 20 seconds, while the presenter talks along with the images.
Following each presentation is a three-minute and 40-second question and answer period with the audience.
Subjects presented in the past include Creative Architecture/Landscape Design; Renewable Energy; Commercial Photography; Public Art; Genealogy; Quantum Physics; Interior Design; and Tribal Tattoos. The event is completely free and open to all.
