A new indoor play area for babies and  toddlers is due to open in mid March at the National Sports Centre.

The Pop Up Playroom will take place every Tuesday and Thursday morning from 9am to 12pm though it is hoped there will be more to follow.

Julie Butler, owner of the Playroom Limited who will run the play area, has been planning the launch since her eldest daughter was a baby.

“After having my first daughter I quickly realized that there was a limited amount of things to do with babies and toddlers on the island — especially in the heat of the summer or when it was raining. Having been to similar places overseas, I wondered why we couldn’t have one in Bermuda and so I started looking into it.

“I’m starting small on a pop up basis to build up my client base and see what works and what doesn’t, but I have big plans to grow the business.”

The play area will be located in the sports pavilion at the National Sports Centre in Devonshire and so there will be plenty of parking. Amy Fox, Aquatics Supervisor at the National Sports Centre said: “We believe it is going to be an awesome programme that opens up a new avenue for fun things to do for parents with their younger children. The programme Julie has envisioned coincides exactly with our base philosophy of encouraging movement and physical development for young children.”

The equipment used in the play area encourages gross motor development for babies and young children, and aims to encourage imaginative play and socialization. This includes a ball pool, a sensory crawl area for babies, a gross motor set of large vinyl blocks which can be configured in limitless possibilities to encourage climbing, crawling, and spatial
recognition.

The playroom is a parent / caregiver supervised indoor children’s play area for children up to five, and an adult must remain with the child at all times. The price of admission for one child is $15 which includes the whole three hours.

Additional children who are walking are $5 and punch cards of ten passes will also be available for purchase.

The website is at bermudaplayroom.com The Facebook page is facebook/bermudaplayroom. For more information contact Julie Butler by email: [email protected]
