UPDATE 5:30PM: Bermuda Police Service says the St. David's shooting this morning is not connected to the fatal shooting last week in Southampton.

"There is no evidence to support that it is as a result of one gang targeting another," said Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police James Howard.

Earlier this afternoon, police said the man who was injured around 2:45 am this morning in Cove Valley, St. David's did not appear to suffer life threatening injuries.

He was shot, according to police, in his lower extremities after a verbal and physical altercation with his assailants. He was then transported to King Edward Memorial Hospital, where he remained earlier this afternoon, according to police.

Police are keen to speak with anyone who may have heard or seen anyone acting suspiciously in the Cove Valley and St. Luke's Lane areas early this morning. Additionally, anyone who witnessed any vehicles, specifically a dar four-door sedan without any registration plates around that time.

The Serious Crime Department can be contacted at 247-1739 and 247-1365 or on the confidential and independent Crime Stoppers hotline 800-8477 (TIPS).

St. David's residents are told to expect an influx in uniformed officers in the community in coming days. They will be helping with door-to-door inquiries and offer relevant information to that community, according to police.

The investigation continues.

One person was shot early this morning in the Cove Valley area of St. David's, according to police.

The injuries sustained, according to police, are not expected to be life-threatening.

The shooting is the second firearm-related crime in a week on the island. Last Wednesday Erin Lee Richardson was shot to death in Southampton. That crime remains under investigation.

Police are expected to hold a press conference this afternoon to release more information regarding the St. David's shooting.
