The alcohol and drug treatment centre, Caron Bermuda, will host the fourth annual Caron Bermuda Award of Excellence dinner on Thursday at the Fairmont Southampton Hotel, featuring Super Bowl champion Clifton ‘Cliff’ Crosby as a keynote speaker.
The formal fundraising dinner, held under the patronage of Governor George Fergusson, will honour Nancy and Brian Duperreault for their significant contributions in the realm of substance abuse treatment, not the least of which is through the provision of educational opportunities via the Duperreault Fellowship.
The Fellowship highlights their collective efforts, enormous compassion, and understanding of the disease of addiction and its impact on our society.
Crosby, a former defensive back for the St Louis Rams and the Indianapolis Colts, will also be speaking at the Berkeley Institute School. After retiring from the NFL in 2004, Crosby refocused his career on becoming a motivational speaker and youth advocate.
He speaks to teenagers about the life skills and choices that will protect them from risky behaviours, using his own life experiences as an example. He has worked with Caron Treatment Centers for the past six years as a consultant for the Student Assistance Program.
“Cliff has a powerful story and an important message to share,” said Gita Blakeney Saltus, Regional Vice President of Caron Bermuda. “We are honored to have him as our keynote speaker.”
The proceeds from the dinner will contribute to the further development of Adolescent and Family programming and the Caron Bermuda Scholarship Fund, providing much needed financial aid to families who reach out to us to assist with the cost of treatment for their loved ones.
