What's on: Pacquiao v Bradley in the big match

April is here, bringing with it a shower of new shows and specials, as well as some not-to-be-missed boxing. Here are just a few highlights.

• Cyber Stalkers — Special — Premieres tonight at 11pm on TLC followed next week by — Web of Deceit — Premiering Wednesday, April 16 at 11pm  on TLC:

In these two specials,  TLC tackles a subject of growing concern — Internet predators. 

Tonight, tune in for Cyber Stalkers, a one-hour production featuring true stories and dramatic reenactments of real events surrounding online connections that go wrong.

Then, next week in the same time slot, Web of Deceit chronicles the story of one woman’s online romantic relationship and how it went awry. She hires two private investigators who meticulously piece together the real truth behind her less-than-honest love interest.

• Pacquiao v Bradley 2 — Live event — Saturday, April 12 on Pay-Per-View. Preshow event at 9:30pm; Fight at 10pm:

Boxing fans are eagerly awaiting the upcoming World Welterweight Championship fight that pits Manny Pacquiao against Timothy Bradley in Las Vegas. This is a rematch of their first fight in 2012 which led to Pacquiao’s split-decision loss, one of the most controversial moments in boxing history. 

This is a make-or-break fight for Pacquiao, one that will either grant him the status of an all-time boxing great, or possibly mark the beginning of the end of his career.  Bradley, on the other hand, will be looking to prove to the world that he truly deserved the 2012 win. See it all on Pay-Per-View. The cost is $59.95.

News science shows from NatGeo:

• Kudos to National Geographic for bringing out three new shows that help viewers young and old take a whole new interest in science: Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey — Sundays at 8pm, on National Geographic:

Hopefully you have caught the first episodes of  this new show, but there’s still time to jump on board for the 13-episode series.  Hosted by noted astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, the show reveals the grandeur of the universe, showcasing the latest astronomical discoveries along with stunning visual effects.      

• None of the Above  — and The Numbers Game” — new series — Mondays at 11pm and 11:30pm, respectively, on National Geographic:

None of theAbove takes science to the street as British host Tim Shaw, who describes himself as a “massive geek,” conducts science experiments in public places and asks bystanders to predict the outcomes. Expect to see a lot of things getting blown up, but at least Shaw will help us understand why. Find out what laws of physics and engineering allow a
helicopter to land on a single layer of eggs without breaking a shell, or a vacuum sweeper to hold an entire car in the air.

The Numbers Game reveals how science and statistics are at work behind everyday situations, and demonstrates that life is all about numbers. Hosted by data scientist Jake Porway, the show explores topics such as superstition, skepticism, toughness and lying. 

Did you know that  research has found that if you volunteer your time for just over one hour a week, you will increase your chances of becoming a hero by 33 percent?

• Bermuda Tentacles – Original Syfy Movie – Premieres Saturday, April 12, at 10pm on Syfy:

I couldn’t resist finding out more when I saw the title of this new Syfy movie.

It stars Linda Hamilton (who played Sarah Connor in the original Terminator film series) as admiral of a US Navy aircraft carrier dispatched to the Bermuda Triangle to rescue the US President after Air Force One crashes. 

Things get strange when her team inadvertently wakes up a large sea monster, presumably with tentacles.

• The MTV Movie Awards — Special live event, Sunday April 13 at 10pm:

See how your favourite movies and actors score at the always-unconventional MTV Movie Awards, hosted this year by late-night TV personality Conan O’Brien.

These are just some of the new shows you can explore on cable this month. Expect more excitement in May, which starts off with the much-anticipted May 3 fight on Pay-Per-View when Floyd Mayweather takes on Marcos Maidana, who boasts an 82 per cent knockout rate.
