Oktoberfest is coming to Bermuda next month in a big way — with German-inspired food, beer and music.

The Frog and Onion Pub is hosting Oktoberfest in the Victualling Yard in Dockyard, which will feature beer hall band Oompah Brass. Owner Phill Barnett called the band “unbelievable” and said the event will be held nightly from October 10 to 13.

Mr Barnett said the goal is to make the event as authentically close to the real Oktoberfest in Munich.

Beers featured will include Samuel Adams and a new beer brewed in Dockyard — the only brewery in Bermuda by brewmaster Jim McLennan.

“We are also bringing in a ‘rock and roll’ oompah band from London, who have been called the best five-piece brass band in Europe.

“In addition we will be traditionally setting up a huge tent and long trestle style tables to swing your steins at.

“Add Bermuda’s own ‘Chill-tacular’ Felix Tod and Tony Brannon, and it will be a one of a kind event that is rollicking good fun, in an awesome atmosphere with great beerflowing like a golden river, and delicious German beer hall food.

“It is literally for anyone 18 to 80.”

Mr Barnett said the event will be held under a giant white tent in the Victualling Yard.

Tables of ten are available for reservation but reservations aren’t necessary.

Food on offer will include half spring chicken, a selection of German bratwurst, sauerkraut and German potato salad. There will also be soft pretzels with dipping mustards and fresh apple strudel.

The event will start at 5pm nightly.

Asked why people should attend, Mr Barnett said: “It will be a unique event that most people have to travel half way around the world to experience, and I am sick and tired of hearing people say Bermuda is boring, so we are doing our darndest to fix that.

“Moreover it will be a truly fun and interactive event with all the attendant German beer hall games that make Oktoberfest a hoot.”

Partners for Oktoberfest include Burrows and Lightbourn, Bermuda Department of Tourism, Butterfield Bank, West End Development Corporation, Cambridge Beaches and Fairmont Southampton.
