Mayho seizes his chance
With the Bermuda Bicycle Assocation’s road racing season heading quickly to its October conclusion, the Crime Stoppers Cycling Team hosted another quality race at Prospect.
On a course similar to that raced for the NatWest Island Games road race along Middle and North Shore Roads, Dominique Mayho (Madison) lead home the Adult A group just ahead of Darren Glasford (Winners Edge).
The two escaped from the peloton after two of five laps, countering a strong breakaway group orchestrated by Mayho's team-mate Neil Lupsic.
When Lupsic suffered a mechanical failure Mayho jumped to the lead and Glasford followed. Though there was a sustained chase from the remaining peloton, it was unsuccessful and in the final sprint to the finish line teenager Justin Ferreira (WE) came through for third.
Sprint finish
In the Adult B race most competitors were willing to leave the four lap race to a final sprint other than a strong effort by Daniel Oatley (Fast Forward Bicycle Works) who was off the front for nearly half a lap going into the final miles before the group dragged him back.
The final sprint was won by Ricky Smith (WE) followed by Mark Brown (unattached) and Matt Claridge (FFBW).
The C group was lead home by Alex Godfrey (FFBW) followed by new comer Seamus Fearon (unattached) and Kenny Mills (Crime Stoppers).
In the Women’s category Karen Bordgae (unattached) continued to show her dominance with a strong win over Martina Olcheski-Bell (Madison) and Karen Smith (WE).
Back after several years in the UK was Julia Hawley who finished one spot behind Smith.
