Bermuda won three medals in the Caribbean Cycling Championships in Curacao this weekend. And once again it was the women leading the way.
Zonique Williams stood the tallest on the podium for Bermuda with a silver in the road race.
Nicole Mitchell won two bronze medals taking third in both the time trial on Saturday and the road race on Sunday.
The men were shut out. Dominique Mayho had flat tyre in the road race, which took him out of contention. Darren Glasford and Shannon Lawrence finished with the second pack.
Team manager Greg Hopkins described the conditions as hot and windy.
He said the field was tough and the racing fast.
“Great job by Zonique and Nicole taking silver and bronze in the women's road race. Zoe made a break with last year’s winner Tamiko from Antigua and the two worked tirelessly to stay away from the field. Nicole did exactly what she should and won the field sprint for third.
“The men's race was extremely fast from the start as expected. Our guys worked hard. Dom had a tough day and was not feeling his best. A flat took him out of the race. Shakee an Shannon hung in there and finished in the second main pack. Well done guys.”
