Artist Jonah Jones recently returned from an extreme cycling challenge in the European Alps and his painting depicting the event is on silent auction to raise money for two of his favourite causes.
Money raised from the painting of the T2MC Turin to Monte Carlo, will go towards PALS cancer support charity and the Bermuda Art Centre for Dockyard where Jonah has a studio.
The painting is of the group of Bermuda riders training on the hills in Bermuda. But in the background, Jones has painted the foothills and mountains of the Alps.
Jones said: “Hopefully someone who wants to really help out will email me with a hefty bid on my original painting. It is a little different to my general genre of work, so may be quite the collectors item when I am in the ground. The highest bid thus far is $2,900. A realistic price for my work of a similar size would be $7,500. It’s early days.”
The tour was organized by Charlie Thresh at KPMG through a company called “Classic Tours” which was set up with the specific purpose of raising money through challenges (www.classictours.co.uk).
Some 23 riders joined Jones on his team, about half came from Bermuda and the rest had Bermuda connections. At last count the group had raised North of $60,000 for their chrities also.
Speaking of his work, Jones said: “I love the way the painting has meshed together, telling a story of the journey.
“I decided that rather than ask people for pledges I would use my skill and talent as a painter to produce a one-off original piece of artwork and a limited run of prints to raise money for my chosen charities.”
The latest bid on his painting was at $2,900 and there are currently 11 days left to bid.
There are also limited editions of the poster for sale with proceeds going to the charities.
They are printed on high-quality archival paper. They are selling at $45 plus P&P or can be bought at the Arts Centre in Dockyard.
