The judges for Bermuda’s Youth Got Talent will have a difficult time narrowing the number of final contestants down to 20.
And a large part of the difficulty has been caused by some of last year’s contestants who didn’t make the finals and have come back better than ever.
Auditions for the show were held at the Ruth Seaton James Auditorium on Saturday.
Kelly Hunt, producer of BYGT, told the Bermuda Sun: “We’ve seen some amazing acts. There is an abundance of talent on this island amongst our youth and we’re proud to showcase them and present them to Bermuda.
“Here is some great news about our youth instead of what we have been hearing and we’re excited about that.
She did not envy the job of judges PowerGirl Trina (aka Patrina Paynter) and Nadanja.
“They have a really difficult job ahead of them and I’m glad I’m not doing that part of it.”
She said there was an abundance of singing talent this year, with some of them blowing away those who were in the auditorium.
Mrs Hunt said the all the contestants will be notified whether or not they will made the finals by midweek. The finals are scheduled for April 11 and will also have a yet-to-be-announced celebrity judge.
PowerGirl said some of the contestants really “brought it. We were blown away. Some of the talent that we’ve seen, we didn’t expect it. A kid walks on the stage and we think ‘okay, they can probably sing’ and then they get up there and they start striking notes and showing such stage presence, which we hadn’t seen before.”
She said some of the contestants had tried out in previous years, had taken the constructive criticisms offered and have come back better than ever.
“They have taken it up a notch from last year. They really surprised me because they took the advice that we gave them last year so this is going to be an awesome show.
“I can tell you, they are the competition.”
PowerGirl added that even though there was some verbal sparring between and her and Nadanja “but we are on the same page when it comes to rating people. We have the same feeling about some of the people who have come up.
“We like having fun and we like supporting these young people because at the end of the day, no matter who goes through all of them are winners.”
She added a hopeful note for those who will be notified that they didn’t qualify for year’s finals “doesn’t mean they can’t try out again next year” and bring it like this year’s second time contestants.
