Gabby Arnold made sure Bermuda did not leave Aruba empty-handed in the Junior Caribbean Cycling Championships.
Much to the delight of the Bermuda contingent, Arnold finished third in the Female Road Race and in the process earned her fourth overall medal in the Junior Caribbean Cycling Championships. Kamryn Minors finished sixth, The race was won by Keiana Lester of Trinidad and Tobago with Oriana Thielman in second.
The boys may not have won any medals but they did the island proud by following up yesterday’s top 10 performances with some more Sunday morning.
Justin Ferreira was fifth in the 15/16 category. Shomari Steede's placing was not available at press time.
Bermuda Bicycle Association president Peter Dunne said Steede “raced well in his inaugural effort in the regional championship and now has a better idea of the level of the competition”.
Nate Hartwig was the top local finisher in the Boys 17/18 and claimed 10th place. Unfortunately, Deshi Smith was plagued by mechanical issues which saw him drop from the peloton and riding solo for the last five laps of the race. Nico Barclay finished one lap down one the main field.
Dunne said: “After yesterday's time trial which saw strong performances by Smith and Ferreira, Team Bermuda should feel that this is the appropriate next level of competition for them and recognize how other countries in the region are going with their cycling.”
