WEDNESDAY, JUNE 15: Bermuda’s youngsters solved puzzles, read maps, practiced new skills and ran as part of the fifth annual Ber-mazing race at Clearwater Beach.
Nearly 60 children participated in this year’s race which aims to be educational and fun at the same time.
The children were challenged to name which parishes various schools could be found in.
On finding the various schools they had to complete a task/challenge before being given the next clue to be able to move on.
Some of the tasks and challenges were fishing jelly worms out of a bowl of a mixture of chocolate pudding, mashed bananas, yogurt and oatmeal using chop sticks, bracelet beading, jigsaw puzzles and tic tac-toe to name a few.
Once they reported to the final “marshall”, the schools had to be put in the parish order from east to west before being able to tie their legs together (three legged) and race to the finish line.
The winners were:
In the 12-16 year-old age group — first place Marcus Smith and Meshelae Hayward (1:43 mins); second place Asante Chapman and Azende Furbert (1:50 mins); third place Azaire Smith and Z’chai Jennings (1:55mins).
In the 8-11 year-old age group — first place Kyon Parfitt and Salah Tuzo (pictured above) ; second place Sage Jackson and Priya Lewis and third place Zakiyah Durham and Teyah Lindo.
Prizes included an X-box360, iPods, digital cameras, video recorders and cellphones.
The Ber-mazing Race is being televised on Bermuda Sports Network (BSN channel 82). The dates and times are yet to be confirmed.
The Adult Ber-mazing Race is due to take place on Labour Day, Monday, September 5.
