Travel / Is AirTran a bargain over Delta?
WestJet is a bargain
Okay, everyone was jumping up and down that AirTran is coming to Bermuda starting this spring.
So how much cheaper is AirTran than Delta?
About $90 when I checked on both airline’s websites on Tuesday.
AirTran’s ticket to Atlanta for June 7, returning June 14 was around $590, including taxes, while Delta’s was $680.
That’s nothing like the low fares being run by JetBlue or WestJet, but $90 is $90.
AirTran’s Baltimore flights were more reasonable at $420.
WestJet v Air Canada
I had to take an emergency trip off the island last week to Toronto. I flew out on WestJet and back on Air Canada. The total cost of the ticket to Toronto was $131 and the return ticket was $305.
If I could have flown WestJet both ways I would have, but I had to come back on Saturday and pay Air Canada’s more than twice the price.
For what it’s worth, they both have in-seat TVs, but on WestJet you have to pay about $7 to watch a movie or $3 for a TV show.
Even factoring that in, it’s still way cheaper than Air Canada.
Both flights were about half full, but to be honest, I don’t know what anyone would pay twice the price for Air Canada — the value isn’t there.

Save even more
When you are on an airline’s website they’ll often have a box where you can put in a ‘promo code’ or ‘coupon code’. You can grab a few extra dollar savings.
There are two ways to find code – just simply type into Google “airline name promo code” or, even better, go to www.retailmenot.com and sign up for e-mail alerts for specific airlines, hotels, rental car agencies or cruises.
The site won’t spam you with a barrage of daily
e-mails about junk you don’t want and will tip you off when you can save a few more bucks and everyone loves spending more in the destination rather than getting to it.
It claims the average savings on WestJet flights are $22.
Hey, that may not be a lot, but it’s your money and if you have a family that all starts to add up.
The average discount varies from airline to airline so some do offer bigger savings.
Retailmenot.com claims the average savings on JetBlue flights are $173 so it’s well worth the look.
C Travel
The local travel agency is having a draw where it is giving away two American Airline tickets to anywhere in the Continental U.S. where AA flies.
To be eligible you have to order a C Travel gift certificate by December 18.
How much you make out the gift certificate for is up to you, so it could be a way for you not only to reward someone else with the gift of travel, but you might get blessed with free tickets.
