USBC finals at Warwick Lanes

March Madness hits Warwick Lanes as the USBC championships start this Saturday and run through March 25. The men’s team championship is this Saturday with the men’s singles and doubles championship the following Saturday.

The women’s team event will be on March 18 with the women’s singles and doubles on March 25.

Warriors’ League

The Mohawks took home three scalps as they chopped into Commanche’s lead. The Mohawks lost the first game by eight pins, but then handily won the next two by 47 and 44 pins respectively. They also won the overall pin totals.

Other scores saw Navaho take four from Cherokee, Kickapoo beat the Mohicans 3-1 and Blackfoot in a walkover on Choctaw.

Mark Gibbons earned two USBC awards with his 243 game. He picked up a 75 Pins Over Average Award and a 200-249 Game Award.

The high handicap honours went to Robin Simmons with a 665 and Kelly Smith with a 653.

The highest women’s games were bowled by Sandra Ford (187) and Janice Binns (171).

Standings: 1. Commanche 50-30; 2. Mohican 44-36; 3. Mohawk 42-38; 4. Blackfoot 41-39; 5. Kickapoo 39-41; 6. Choctaw 38-42; 7. Cherokee 35-45; 8. Navaho 31-49.

Fishbowl League

Mackerel moved into second place as they canned Tuna 4-0. The win now leaves Mackerel 4.5 points behind leaders Marlins.

Other scores saw Goldfish beat Jellyfish 3-1; Piranhas beat Cow Pollies 3-1 and Barracuda hook Wahoo 3-1. Dolphins and Porgies drew 2-2.

Jackie Miller had the high scratch game with a 268, barely edging William Steede’s 267. Richard Zuill rolled a 243.

High handicap honours also went to Miller, who had a 762. Steede (753) and Mallory (702) were the next best men.

Ford led all women with a 668 while Kemp (660) and Tucker (613) were also in the top three.
