Kent Richardson took third place in his age group in the Memphis in May Triathlon last weekend. 15th overall out of nearly 1,200 amateurs.
The triathlete completed the slightly longer than Olympic-distance course in 2:11:08.
“Unfortuantely, the run was a little bit long. Instead of being a 10k, the run was 6.8 miles. We had a bit of that nasty weather from the tornado. We got a good bit of that while the race was going on with heavy winds, lighting and rain.
The conditions weren’t that great at all.
I had the second fastest bike split on the day, but with the run being a little long, it added about four minutes to my run time.
The course was set, but unfortunately with all the flooding they had to make some changes to the run leg. When they were measuring the new run course they made a mistake and made it too long. In March, Richardson won his age group at the Miami International Triathlon.
He is aiming to compete at the ITU World Championships in Beijing later this year where his goal is to be in the top 15 in his age group.
He plans on competing in the Aon Triathlon Sprint Championships in July and the Cycling’s National Time Trial Championships in June.
