Small containership Simone had no trouble negotiating Town Cut
WEDNESDAY, FEB. 8: There was a rare sight in St George’s last night when a container ship sailed through Town Cut.
Simone arrived in the East End at around 5pm on route from the Bahamas to pick up some spare parts.
She’s only 130 metres long so had no problems navigating her way through the narrow passage.
The 7,200-ton ship was built in 2011 and is flagged in Antigua and Barbuda. She is also fitted with two cranes on board.
The vessel and her 13-strong crew docked off Penno’s Wharf for the night.
Spares
The spare engine parts were brought into Bermuda on last night’s British Airways flight from London and transported to the ship in St George’s.
The ship’s next port of call has not been assigned yet as she is ‘waiting for orders’.
The blue and red-hulled Simone was due to leave Bermuda this morning.
Elsewhere it’s a very quiet week in the shipping world.
The only other arrival to date has been the Oleander, which rolled into Hamilton on Monday morning.
The Bermuda Islander is scheduled to arrive in the capital on Thursday morning.
