A Russia-bound ship full of frozen fish diverted to Bermuda yesterday for a sick sailor to be brought ashore.
The Bosfor was travelling from Alabama in the U.S. to St. Petersburg when the third officer fell ill complaining of stomach pains.
The ship arrived at Five Fathom Hole off St. George’s at around 3pm and was greeted by the pilot boat.
Journey
The crew member was hauled aboard the pilot boat and taken to St. George’s to a waiting ambulance.
The Bosfor was only visible from our shores for a couple of hours before she continued on her journey across the Atlantic towards Russia.
Today the cruise ship Costa Atlantica is due to arrive at Dockyard at about 7am. She brings a cargo of 2,250 passengers and will be docked at King’s Wharf for just over a day.
Costa Atlantica originates in Nassau in the Bahamas and at 974 metres is one of the longest cruise ships to stop at Bermuda.
She is scheduled to leave at 1pm tomorrow and heads back to Freeport in the Bahamas.
This is the Costa Atlantica’s only trip to Bermuda of the year and it is also the penultimate cruise ship to call in at Dockyard of 2010.
The Somers Isles is also due to arrive today. She should be unloading her cargo of food and supplies this morning.
The Bermuda Islander and the Oleander make up the shipping schedule for this week. The former arrives in Hamilton tomorrow morning while the latter is back in the city on Sunday afternoon.
