A toast was made to freedom on Saturday at the Amnesty International’s 50th Anniversary Bash held at Kaleidoscope. It was a shame that more did not turn out to enjoy this open air, festival-style event — there were only about 60 guests at the event when we were there but organizers said that about 150 tickets were sold. There was music from bands old and new and an array of different genres from blues and rock to funk and reggae. Between acts there were talks by members of the community from organizations attached to Amnesty giving speeches on everything from migrant workers to freedom of expression. The night culminated in the presentation of a birthday cake to the organization and a speech about the importance of freedom by Amnesty’s director Robyn Skinner. The Bermuda Sun’s Sarah Lagan was there with her camera.
