Overseas competitors fly in for Bermuda Open

The Bermuda Open Tenpin Classic tournament takes place at Warwick Lanes November 6 and 7. This is a scratch tournament that replaces the PBA that Bermuda hosted for 14 years.

It is run on the same format as the PBA and is designed for both men and women scratch bowlers and there will be at least two competitors from the U.S. Competition starts Saturday morning at 10am with bowlers bowling one five game block.

There is a break for lunch then the bowlers roll another five games.

The top 12 then bowl on Sunday at 9am. The top five then proceed to bowl TV style for the championship at approximately 7pm.

Second Spring Seniors

Drifters moved into a tie for first place when the whitewashed Blue Angels 4-0. Sonny Charves rolled a 188 game on his way to a 488 series. Noel Pearman used a 160 as a foundation for his 463 series while Jim Francis built his 434 series on a 171 game. Llew Jones also made the honours list with a 160 game.

Muriel Burgess had a 165 game on her way to a 409 series while Dora Spring McGrath used a 151 game to get to a 417 pin count. Fred Black’s 411 was built upon a 152 game. Janice Robinson tied for the ladies second high game with a 152.

Fishbowl League

Cow Pollies moved past Porgies and Marlins to slip into first place with a 4-0 victory over Barracuda.

Patrice Tucker once again led all women bowlers with a 208 game. Brenda Burrows had the high handicap series with a 663, followed by Sheila Easton (652) and Lisa Saints (638).  Easton and Saints had the second and third high games respectively with a 201 and 185.

Ted Swiss led a trio of male bowlers over the 200 mark. Swiss rolled a 224 scratch game as he collected a 639 handicap series. Clem Lespere (206) and Albert Botelho (201) were also in the top three.

Lionel Cann topped the handicap series chart with a 686, besting Tony Vibal by 37 pins. A.J. Mello had a 648.

Barritt’s League

Haascobe kept their run to the title in good standing with a 27 to three trouncing over Team Bouchee. The squad has a 15 game lead over traditional powers PH Club and Pembroke Jrs.

Levinc Samuels had a 227 game as he bowled a 625 series. Antione Jones was just three pins back of Samuels for the high game. Robert Wilson used his 222 game as he rolled a 565 series, which tied George Ben for third on the series list. Casey Burgess was second with a 566.

Scores: Pin Raiders 17, Young Bloods 13; Sparks 9, Pembroke Jrs 21; Bye 3, PH Club 27; Haascobe 27, Team Bouche 3.

Standings: 1. Haascobe 159-51; 2. PH Club 144.5-65.5; 3. Pembroke Jrs 144-66; 4. Pin Raiders 120-90; 5. Sparks 89-121; 6. Team Bouchee 87.5-122.5; 7. Young Bloods 64-143.

Mixed Majors

Activators managed to stay on the top of the tables thanks to a 14 to 6 triumph over Try Hards.

Patrice Tucker had the high game with a 246. Joan Burgess (222) and Shirley Tuzo (215) rounded out the top three women.

Jennifer Stovell had the high series with a 604, followed by Burgess (599) and Tucker (595).

CAC Games bronze medalist Damien Matthews was the top man with a 235 game and 651 series. Dwayn Lewis tied for the top game by a man with a 235 while Casey Burgess rolled a 226.

Jermaine DeSilva had a 630 series while Burgess bowled a 616.

F-M Continental League

Cubs opened up a 20 game lead with a 26 to 4 thrashing of Odd Balls.

Dayvon Tucker edged Gregory Simons by one pin to have the high score. Tucker bowled a 256. Bruce Benevides had the third high game with a 244.

Tucker also had the high series with a 635. Simons’ 623 was second while Troy Robinson lifted himself onto the honours list with a 574.

Patrice Tucker was the top woman for the third league this past week with her 226 game and 628 series. Peaches Perinchief also made both lists with a 191 game and 527 series. Edna Mae Tuzo used her 204 game as a big part of her 500 series.

Commercial League

King Pins and BTC kept pace with each other a top the standings with 3-1 wins. Jermaine DeSilva barely missed out on a 300 game as he rolled a 279. Junior Campbell also had a spectacular night with a 254 game and 723 handicap series. Matthew Taylor topped the 200 mark with a 207. DeSilva had the second high handicap series with a 675, edging Jaime Ford by three pins.

Zina Jones’ 185 was good enough to best the rest of the women for top honours. Tine Sims had a 180 while Terrylyn Jones had a 174.  Makeda Goater managed the top handicap series by a woman with a 638. Kennelyn Smith (624) and Karen Landy (609) were second and third respectively.
