One game in, and the World Champions are almost out. Italy need to win here - nothing else will be enough.
Reigning Commercial League champs Tuff Dogs went all of last season just losing one game, but stumbled out of the box against P&M.
P&M are based on the old Sea Venture Overseas Shipping team that dominated softball for many years.
Chris Coleman (2-4) helped put P&M in the lead with a two run homer in the first and that was shortly followed by a Danny Cook (1-4) blast that also left the park.
P&M scored five in the first, two in the fourth and Jon Towers (2-3) capped their scoring with a three-run shot in the fifth.
Cook did a masterful job in limiting Tuff Dogs to five hits, the last of which was a Steve O'Flynn (2-3) homer. Kevin Taylor also had two hits for the Dogs.
Joanie Harper (3-4) and Johnny Ray (2-3, walk) also helped provide a jolt to the P&M attack.
Southlands 17, ACE 8
A 12-run third inning was more than enough for Southlands to overcome ACE. Darren Green (4-5) blasted two homers in the inning for Southlands. Southlands developed their lead further in the fourth when they plated another five runs. Leadoff batter Greg Carey (3-4, walk) set the table at the top of the order while Joe Machado (4-4), Shannon Grosse (3-4) and Chris Larkin (3-5) all batted well for the winner.
Les Dziwenka was 3-4 for ACE and Paul DeCouto (2-4) hit a three-run homer in the losing cause.[[In-content Ad]]
