Odd Balls pull off upset

Continental League

In a stunning victory, Odd Balls lifted themselves off the bottom of the tables to send Pinsplitters to the anchorman position. With the league title well decided by Pinjammers, this match had all the drama.

Odd Balls needed to take 27 of the 30 points from Pinsplitters to flop positions in the standings and that's exactly what they did.

Likewise New Hope beat Bermuda Pest Control 23 to 7 - again just enough - to edge them by two games in the standings.

Pinjammers beat Nifty Rollers 19 to 11 to officially be crowned the league champs.

Cubs moved into second place with a 26 to 4 drubbing of Spicenix. Spicenix's loss allowed Quickie Lickie Laundry to finish in fourth with a 21 to 9 triumph over The Invaders.

If the battle at the bottom wasn't exciting enough, four men were all within one pin of each other for the week's high game. Mile Smith and Bruce Benevides both rolled 223s while Hilton Hayward and Richie Richardson had 222s, but it was Erwyn Bean who had the high series with a 602. Clyde Burgess hit 600 exactly and Ivan Trott had a 576.

The top women were Rochelle Harvey (193), Kathy Christopher (187, 515), Marguerite Lynch (186), Michelle Simons (529) and Barbara Robinson (526).

Final standings: 1. Pinjammers 608-292; 2. Cubs 521.5-378.5; 3. Nifty Rollers 516.5-383.5; 4. Quickie Lickie Laundry 485.5-414.5; 5. Spicenix 478.5-421.5; 6. The Invaders 422-478; 7. New Hope 409-491; 8. Bermuda Pest Control 407-493; 9. Odd Balls 327-573; 10. Pinsplitters 325-575.

East End League

See-Breeze Strikers almost overhauled Trailblazers to lift them off the bottom of the standings but fell one game short. The Strikers beat their rivals 7-2 in the league's last match day.

Pin Snipers, who were comfortably ahead in the standings, cemented their league title with a 6-1 triumph over Habetes.

Other scores saw Spare Collectors beat TLC 7-2; Fireballs moved into fourth place with a 9-0 whitewashing of Ten Pins; Up-N-Coming downed Here We Come 6-3.

John Simons (220), Edward Trott (213) and Charles Swainson (203) all topped the 200 mark. Roslyn Simmons was the top woman with a 192. Laurie Simons had a 178 as a base for her 512 series while Linda Simons also had a 178. Roslyn Simmons (504) and Deena Broadley (488) had the second and third high series.

Final standings: 1. Pin Snipers 195-75; 2. Habetes 164-106; 3. Spare Collectors 154-116; 4. Fireballs 138-132; 5. TLC 133.5-136.5; 6. Ten pins 126-144; 7. Up-N-Coming 123.5-146.5; 8. Here We Come 111-158; 9. Trailblazers 103-167; 10. See-Breeze Strikers 102-168.[[In-content Ad]]
