New scoreboard to honour Preece
Norbert Simons, director for the Department of Youth and Sports, said they have been in possession of the new scoreboard for quite a while.
He said the Michael E. Preece Stadium is situated in a swamp-like environment.
"In order for the poles to hold the weight of the scoreboard, they would have had to have gone down 20 or 30 feet."
He said the engineers opted to put down a concrete base behind the existing scoreboard and the poles have been cemented in.
"We're trying to upgrade the park," Simons said. "We'll have a little ceremony and have the family over after we get the scoreboard up."
