FRIDAY, DECEMBER 9: If you have ever made a bad relationship choice, if you have been bullied or are the offender or if you have experienced abuse of any sort, you may be interested in two new books by Cha’Von Clarke.
When Lightning Strikes is the latest Tpublication in the author’s Bermy Chicks Chronicles and is based on a collection of true Bermudian stories. It tells the story of successful HR professional Miechah who seems to have it all. But underneath she harbours secrets and bad memories — more than one woman should have to carry.
The focus of the book is mental illness, abuse, bullying and gang-like behaviour.
As with most of Clarke’s books, When Lightning Strikes speaks to current social issues on the island. The previous books in the series were Streets are Listening...God is Watching about political mayhem, crime and same sex marriage while Onyx...Rekindling which revealed the effects of incest.
Clarke has also released a book of poetry entitled Stolen Whispers, a journey into the life of a woman who loved, hurt and loved again.
The poems aims to be “empowering and rich with sensuality”.
The book is dedicated to Clarke’s first platform for spoken word, Chewstick and the artists who have also found their niche through the performing arts group.
A public book signing is planned for Sunday, December 11 at the Book Mart with live performances by Chewstick artists, including the young performers of Chew Slam.
There will also be a fashion show featuring Rene Hill.
The event is free but donations for Chewstick will be welcomed. Clarke said: “This is a family event so bring the kids.”
The signing will be held from 2-5 pm at Brown & Co.
Both books have been published by CKC BOOKS, the same publishing company who published burn victim, De’Jon Simons’ book, Memoirs of My Scars.
All CKC BOOKS are available at the Book Mart and through the CKC Corporation website, www.ckccorporation.com.
