WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 12: There are a couple of unusual shipping sights off the shores of Bermuda this week.
The Begonia G was a conspicuous presence on Front Street over the weekend.
The big green multi-purpose vessel had to call into Bermuda last Friday for engine repairs on her transatlantic trip.
She remained in Hamilton until yesterday morning when she headed up to St George’s for more work so the Veendam could come alongside in the capital.
The Begonia G is carrying steel products from Greece to Houston, Texas.
Mechanics have flown in from the US. to complete the repair work while replacement parts have been flown in from the UK.
If all the repair work goes according to plan the ship and her Russian crew should leave Bermuda tomorrow.
Meanwhile car carrier Jasper Arrow made her first trip to the island yesterday to deliver 67 Japanese cars to Hamilton docks.
The carrier arrived from St Kitts at sunrise and was on her way to her next port of call in the Bahamas by midday.
While tomorrow the research vessel R/V Oceanus will stop in at Penno’s Wharf in St George’s for a few hours to pick up scientists who are being flown into Bermuda.
The R/V Oceanus will only be in town a matter of hours and is due to head out to sea the same day to continue her exploration of the deep.
Thursday will also mark the Aidaluna’s second trip of the year to the island.
The smaller German cruise ship will be coming into Hamilton at 7am and leaving later the same day.
The usual container ships are all in this week.
The Somers Isles arrives today and is followed by the Bermuda Islander tomorrow. The Oleander is schedule to arrive in Hamilton on Sunday afternoon.
Finally there is just the one arriving cruise ship in Dockyard today.
