WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 22: Dominic Mayho continues to have success cycling in France.
The teenaged rider is competing for team UCC Vivonne in France.
He had two races last week and finished fourth in last Wednesday’s event.
Mayho said the 125k race was the longest he has competed in so far.
Mayho, who rides for Team Madison locally, said: “The course had two pretty long climbs, about one kilometre each, and one of the flat sections went across an open farm, so there was a strong cross wind that really broke up the race.
“The race started really fast. A group of three broke away from the peloton. I managed to get in a six-man chase group.
Climb
“We tried to bridge the gap to the leaders but the gap was too big to close down. Coming to the finish everyone was attacking each other.
“The final climb to the finish was about three hundred metres. I was second wheel at the bottom of the hill. The guy on the front was looking over his left shoulder waiting for someone to go so I went on his right and was able to hold them off to the finish.”
Mayho finished fourth for his efforts.
