Matthews and Roberts win bronze medals in CAC Games

Damien Matthews picked up a bronze medal in ten pin bowling on Monday. Matthews edged out fellow Bermudian Delmont Tucker for the podium. Ross Roberts added Bermuda's second medal with a bronze in the 50m shooting.

Prior to these games, Bermuda had only won 14 CAC medals — one gold, three silver and 10 bronze. 

Matthews joins Antoine Jones and Conrad Lister as bowlers who have won a medal at a major games competition. Jones and Lister took home the silver from the Commonwealth Games in Malaysia in 1998.

In February Mathews won the 31^st annual Rendezvous Tournament at Warwick Lanes.

It is expected that this will be one of Bermuda’s best CAC Games as the island sent its largest team, 60 athletes, ever.

In women’s bowling, Gloria Dill had Bermuda’s best result. Dill was 18^th out of the 72 competitors with a six game series of 1,193 — 123 pins behind winner Rocio Restrepo of Colombia. Dill moved up the standings in her last two games as she rolled a 247 and 222.

Patrice Tucker was 28^th with a pinfall of 1,128. She had three 200s (203, 208, 246) but matched that up with a 146, 164 and 161. Other scores included Bobbie Jones (33^rd, 1,106, 224 HG), Pat Price (44^th, 1,078, 204HG), Kathy Christopher (49^th, 1,066, 216), Rochelle Harvey (66^th, 995, 193).

Shooters Carl Reid and Ross Roberts made it to the finals in the 50m shooting.
