Luxury yacht costs $800k a week to charter

WEDNESDAY, MAY 9: A huge variety of ships will have called into Bermuda by Sunday in one of the busiest weeks of the year so far.

We’ll see everything from luxury motor yachts to fuel tankers and cable ships and research vessels, not to mention the steady flow of cruise ships calling in at Dockyard.

Last weekend saw the arrival of the cable ship Wave Sentinel into the west end, while the tall ship Gunilla came into Penno’s Wharf in St George’s.

Wave Sentinel will be stationed at the commercial berth for the next six months, while Gunilla is expected to leave the island today.

The coal carrier, Diamantina, was forced to divert into the island on Sunday evening so an injured Filipino crew member could be brought ashore for treatment.

The ship met with the pilot boat at 8:30pm near Five Fathom Hole before heading off on her way to India.

The tanker, Serifos, brought in fuel to the Oil Docks in St George’s for Belco earlier this week and left the island yesterday.

Cruise ships

Today the Norwegian Star and Summit arrive in Dockyard for two days.

While a further three liners; Explorer of the Seas, Norwegian Dawn and Enchantment of the Seas, arrive in the west end over the weekend.

The research vessel Knorr has been alongside at Penno’s Wharf for the last few days and scheduled to head out to sea again today bound for the Azores.

Meanwhile Hamilton continues to play host to the Veendam, which heads back to the U.S. on Friday, and the luxury yacht Martha Ann.

Martha Ann is currently docked off the Hamilton Princess and should be here for another week or so.

The luxury 230ft yacht boasts six decks, a glass elevator in the lobby and a huge sports bar and gym.

The Martha Ann has a permanent crew of 18 and costs just shy of $800,000 a week to charter.
