Last chance for qualifying

For the month of October Southside Family Bowl has been hosting a Scotch-Doubles Handicap Tournament with bowlers qualifying over a five-night period for entry in the finals.

The last qualifying round will be Sunday, October 28 at 7pm followed by the finals for a guaranteed prize fund.

The qualifiers to date are: Muriel Burgess and Graeme "Flash" Furbert; Elizabeth Stovell and Teddy Swainson; Jennifer Butterfield and Keith Smith; Matthew Ringer and Brion Estis; Winifred Albouy and Leon Albouy; Kathydell Hayward-Ming and Bryan Ming; Maryellen Jackson and Carolyn Welch; Noel Cann and Wilfred "Lew" Furbert.

Barritt's League

The Old & the New had one of their best results of the year, but still came out on the wrong end of a 21 to 9 score to Buy & Sell.

Pembroke Juniors climbed into a tie for first place with PHC. The Juniors thrashed Stash T 27 to 3 while PHC knocked down Logic Rollers 26 to 4.

Southside 1 pulled off an upset with a 25 to 5 victory over fourth place Sparks. Southside Two and Young Bloods drew 15-15.

Anthony Smith topped the list with a 248 game, edging Jackie Miller (241) and Noel Smith (241).

Continental Bowling League

Pinjammers couldn't gain on leaders Nifty Rollers, but they didn't lose any ground either. The top two teams drew 15 to 15 allowing third place club New Hope to close the gap.

New Hope downed Quickie Lickie Laundry 25 to 5. Other scores saw Bermuda Pest Control beat Pinsplitters 26 to 4; The Invaders down Spicenix 20.5 to 9.5; and Cubs defeat Odd Balls 26 to 4.

Michael Lambe rolled a 244 game as part of his 603 series. Jackie Miller had the high series with a 628, which included a 223 game. Both Woody Jones and Clyde Burgess rolled a 214 with Jones having a 586 series.

Barbara Robinson rolled a 220 game and 564 series to lead all women. Francis Trott (200), Pat Price (194, 532) and Jennifer Stovell (508) also had a good night.

Fishbowl League

Goldfish returned to their winning ways after stumbling the previous week. Goldfish beat second place Porgies 3-1 to run their league record to 23-5.

The league saw a series of sweeps as Cow Pollies, Dolphins, Barracuda and Piranhas all ran out 4-0 winners. Hinds beat Flying Fish 3-1 and bottom clubs Marlins and Tuna played to a 2-2 draw.

Standings: 1. Goldfish 23-5; 2. Porgies 18.5-9.5; 3. Cow Pollies 17-11; 4. Barracuda 16-12; 5. Snappers 15-13; 6. Hinds 14-14; 7. Dolphins 14-14; 8. Piranhas 13-15; 9. Wahoo 12-16; 10. Flying Fish 12-16; 11. Hammerheads 12-16; 12. Mackerel 11-17; 13. Marlins 10.5-17.5; 14. Tuna 8-20.

Wednesday Night Mixed League

Time Will Tell pulled within a half point of Lucky Strike when they beat Free Spirits 3-1. Lucky Strike stumbled 3-1 to We've Decided. Strike Force was the only team to pull off a sweep with a 4-0 victory over the Ink Spots.

Other scores saw Dark & Lovely beat Forty Plus 3-1 and Newer Breed pick up three points.
