Three injured sailors were brought to Bermuda for treatment this week.

Two seamen from the Northern Javelin container vessel were ferried to St George’s by pilot boat in the early hours of Monday.

Later the same day, a member of the crew of the Samjohn Light was evacuated to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

Injuries

The two Northern Javelin sailors, both Burmese, were injured on board the ship.

The vessel, travelling from the US to Egypt, changed course and arrived at Five Fathom Hole at 1am on Monday.

The men were treated for head injuries. Both were due to fly home on Monday’s BA flight.

The pilot boat crew headed to Five Fathom Hole again at about 5pm on Monday to pick up the ill sailor on board the Samjohn Light. He suffered a serious leg injury in an accident on May 13.

The Greek sailor was on the ship for three days while the vessel changed course towards Bermuda.

Meanwhile the island welcomes, the cement carrier Diego arrived in the west end on Monday and is due to leave this morning bound for Cuba.

The Veendam will be in Hamilton for the week, leaving on Friday.

Today, the Summit and Norwegian Gem and their 4,400 passengers are due to arrive at Dockyard, while tthe Somers Isles is expected at Hamilton. The Bermuda Islander is due to dock in town tomorrow.

Finally, the Carnival Fantasy arrives at Dockyard on Saturday at 4pm and returns to Charleston a little more than 24 hours later.
