Fireballs gets off to blazing hot start with 8-1 victory

One of the hottest teams in the East End Winter League proved to be Fireballs who opened the season with an 8-1 victory over Here We Come. Also tied atop of the standings is TLC and Spare Collector.

Dennis Trott and Rudy Dill hit 200 on the nose while Lawrence Smith rolled a 193. Rita Smith’s 190 was good enough to top all the women while Wally Simmons (184) and Maryell Jackson (175) also rolled well.

Davita Gibbons had the high series for a woman with a 490. Laurie Simons (481) and Rita Smith (474) were second and third. Lawrence Smith (549), Elliot Douglas (538) and John Simons (536) were the best three men.

Second Spring Seniors

Drifters and Islanders couldn’t break their deadlock atop the league as they drew 2-2. Gladwin Robinson led all bowlers with a 177 game with Noel Pearman (171), Geraldine Lambert (170), Leon Smith (164), Amanda Broadley (162) and Iris Symons (157) all having a good night.

Pearman edged Robinson for high handicap series for a man by 10 pins as he rolled a 617. Martin Hassell filled out the honour roll with a 602.

Lambert’s 668 had the big series of the night though as she rolled a 668, beating out Ruth Hayward by six pins. Broadley was third with a 640.

Scores: Last Pin 2, Tigers 2; Drifters 2, Islanders 2; Old N’Kickin 1, Blue Angels 3; Go Get It 3, Pinsplitters 1.

Trio League

The Late Roller rebound from a disastrous three-win start to thrash Produce 17 to 1. Starting Over remained in first by beating Top Guns 15 to 3. Josie Richardson led all women with a 212 game and 517 series. Roslyn Simmons (200, 494) and Bobbie Jones (199, 507) both had top three games and series.

Vernon Daniels showed the men how it was done with a 204 game on his way to a 574 series. Clem Lespere (193, 493) and Woody Jones (181, 502) also made both honours’ lists.

Standings: 1. Starting Over 30-6; 2. Late Rollers 20-16; 3. Produce 13-23; 4. Top Guns 9-27.
