Film project aims to give the island's young people a voice
Reel Voices of Bermuda’s Youth has been launched to celebrate the United Nation’s International Year of Youth.
The Bermuda International Film Festival and Imagine Bermuda are encouraging anyone aged between 15 and 24 to take part by creating personal short films no more than two minutes in length.
The films should answer the question: “If someone was really listening, what would you say about being a youth in Bermuda?” The films can be shot in any way, including using a cellphone or laptop.
The U.N.’s framework seeks to increase commitment and awareness in youth, to increase youth participation and partnerships and increase intercultural understanding among youth.
The films can be submitted on DVD to the BIFF office at the Somers Building, first floor, 15 Front Street, Hamilton HM11.
Participants can also send an e-mail to [email protected] with a link to an online platform such as YouTube or Vimeo.
All entries should be labelled ‘The Reel Voices of Bermuda’s Youth.’ Each entry should be accompanied by the details of the contact person’s name and phone number. The deadline for entries is March 1, 2011.
For those looking for a place to tell their story, Chewstick Foundation will have its video camera running on Saturday, February 12, 2011, from 11am to 3pm at its headquarters on the corner of Court Street and Elliott Street.
A selection of the films will be screened at the BIFF film festival in March.
