Cell phones replace boarding passes for BA passengers
THURSDAY, FEB. 16: A paperless boarding pass system has been launched at LF Wade International Airport.
The mobile boarding pass will allow British Airways passengers to download their boarding pass on to their cell phones.
Each paperless boarding pass is displayed as an encrypted, two-dimensional bar code along with passenger and flight information.
The Bermuda security officers will use scanners to validate the authenticity of the boarding pass at the checkpoint.
The technology was incorporated into the airport’s systems during an upgrade several years ago, but none of the airlines serving Bermuda decided to use the function until now.
British Airways will be the first to use the technology in Bermuda.
Transport Minister Derrick Burgess said: “This innovative approach streamlines the customer experience while heightening the ability to detect fraudulent boarding passes.
“Presently only British Airways will use this system here in Bermuda. It enables their passengers, who have no checked baggage, to bypass the check-in queues and proceed directly to the lounge.
“This is yet another way of improving the airport experience for our travellers.”
