Cattle moo-ve across Atlantic to Bermuda
The Friesian Express was on her way from Delaware in the U.S. to Turkey when she was forced to call at the island on Monday for running repairs.
Replacement parts have already been ordered and the repair work is due to begin this week.
The Friesian Express does regular crossings of the Atlantic with her cargo of hundreds of dairy and beef cows.
The vessel, which arrived on Monday afternoon, will be at Dockyard for the next few days.
She is due leave on Friday if the work is completed on schedule.
Warship
The ‘cowship’ will be joined in the west end tomorrow by the Pakistani Naval vessel Alamgir.
The warship is the old American Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate, the USS McInerney.
The 4,100-tonne vessel was renamed PNS Alamgir during the transfer ceremony in 2010 at the Mayport naval base in Florida.
This followed an agreement between the U.S. and Pakistan under the former’s Foreign Military Sales programme.
The Pakistani Navy vessel will be open to the public between 3-6:30pm tomorrow. Elsewhere in the shipping world, the tanker Lepta Mermaid arrived at the oil docks at St. George’s on Monday.
She siphoned off a cargo of fuel for Esso before leaving yesterday.
The Diego arrived at Dockyard yesterday afternoon to drop off cement powder into the silos. She is due to leave the island tomorrow.
The Bermuda Islander is due to arrive in Hamilton tomorrow, while this week also sees the arrival of the first cruise ship of 2011.
The Seven Seas Mariner is due to arrive in the city at 8am on Saturday.
The ship originates in Port Everglades, Florida, and is on her way to Funchal in Madeira.
The Seven Seas Mariner is scheduled to leave at 5pm on Saturday.
