The gravel carrier MV Gil is due to trundle through Town Cut to St George’s tomorrow.
The ship, which originated in the Bahamas, will only be in the east end for a day while hundreds of tonnes of sand are siphoned off.
She will be docked at Penno’s Wharf for her brief stay.
Construction
The silica she is bringing in will be used in the hospital redevelopment project in the form of concrete and mortar.
The MV Gil is scheduled to leave Bermuda on Friday but will return to the island in a month with more construction supplies.
Yesterday morning, the tanker SKS Doyles could be seen just off St David’s at Five Fathom Hole. The St George’s pilot boat ferried five technicians, who had been flown into Bermuda on Sunday, on to the ship to do some running repairs.
The tanker continued on her way to the Bahamas where the technicians will get off and fly home. The cruise ship season is now in full swing with more than 8,000 passengers bound for Dockyard this weekend.
Today, the Norwegian Dawn and Summit arrive in the west end with their combined cargo of 4,400 tourists.
On Saturday the Caribbean Princess and the Explorer of the Seas are both due in at 9am.
Both ships will leave Bermuda at 5pm and be replaced on Sunday by the Norwegian Dawn.
The Veendam is running a different schedule this week.
She has been on charter duty sailing via Charleston for a change before heading to Bermuda.
She is only here for a day and should get to Hamilton at 8am tomorrow.
The Veendam will leave at her normal time of just after noon on Friday.
The Bermuda Islander heads to Hamilton tomorrow morning, while the Oleander arrives on Sunday afternoon.
