Butterfield promoted to Meyer Freight manager
THURSDAY, FEB. 2: George Butterfield has been promoted to manager of Meyer Freight at the Meyer Group of Companies.
Mr Butterfield will report Joe Simas, vice president of Marine Operations.
Mr Simas said: “With four years of sales and marketing experience with Meyer Freight and with more than 25 years in the industry, George Butterfield brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Meyer Freight team.
“George will lead a team that has expert knowledge in all aspects of freight, import and export. We look forward to Meyer Freight’s continued success under George’s management.”
Mr Butterfield has worked in several aspects of freight and shipping. He was freight manager with John S. Darrell & Co., Ltd., ship’s agent with Meyer Shipping, and a customs officer with H.M. Customs.
In his new role, he will continue to focus on quality customer service on behalf of the two freight lines Meyer represents — Bermuda International Shipping Ltd. (BISL), which represents the MV Bermuda Islander that sails into Bermuda each week from Salem, New Jersey and Somers Isle Shipping Ltd. (SISL), which represents the MV Somers Isles that sails out of Port Fernandina, Florida.
Mr Butterfield said on his new appointment, “Having over 25 years of experience in the shipping industry has prepared me for this challenge. Especially in these challenging economic times, my efficient team and I will provide our customers with the most economical ways of importing their cargo. It’s a privilege and an honor to be given this responsibility.”
