Bulky waste disposal suspended at Tynes Bay

By Ministry of Works and Engineering- | Comments: 0 | Leave a comment

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 30: The Ministry of Works and Engineering requests that waste haulers refrain from bringing bulky waste to Tynes Bay Waste-to-Energy Facility with immediate effect until Monday, July 19, 2010.

Waste haulers are requested to store the bulky waste in a safe area until service returns to normal levels.

The Ministry also advises that during this period the free residential Bulky Waste Collection Service will be restricted to the collection of non-combustible waste only for this duration.

The Tynes Bay plant is currently performing scheduled maintenance and is utilizing the short term contingency plan to shred, bale and store incoming refuse for later disposal. However, the current influx of bulky waste is causing congestion and unsafe conditions in the tipping hall, hence these temporary measures.

These conditions will be reevaluated on a daily basis and the receipt of bulky waste resumed as soon as possible.

The public is advised that the Tynes Bay Public Drop-off Facility will continue to receive waste as usual.  The Airport Waste Management Facility and Marsh Folly Facility are also open for business as usual for the disposal of non-combustible and horticultural waste respectively.

The Ministry apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause to the general public and its customers and would like to thank members of the public for their cooperation during this period.
