Budo Cup Kumite Championships this weekend
FRIDAY, DECEMBER 16: Organizer Reuben Bean expects the Third Annual Budo Cup to be a “spectacular event.”
The tournament is taking place on Saturday at the Bermuda High School for Girls gymnasium with the first event ‘kicking’ off at 10am.
Bean said: “This official World Karate Federation sanctioned tournament will display all the agility and kumite skill-sets of children, cadets and juniors providing for a full morning of entertaining action.
“The Dojo Development Award of Excellence will be awarded to the top three clubs at the end of the event.
“The determinant factors for the award will include the number of victories per dojo, skill and sportsmanship of the competitors — as per WKF regulations — and the professionalism of the competitors and their coaches on and off the tatami.
“The Third Budo Cup Kumite promises to be a spectacular tournament event. The event will feature some of Bermuda’s most promising young martial artists and will provide an opportunity for them to develop character and skill sets at a world-class level tournament.”
Bean added the tournament could lead to some of the youngsters being included in the Bermuda national team for Worlds.
Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children. People looking to register for the tournament can and the cost is $25.
